I didn’t come into recruitment through the usual path. I’m originally from Scotland and spent close to 10 years working in hospitality, managing cafes, restaurants and bars. It gave me experience dealing with all kinds of people, working under pressure, and making hundreds of coffees along the way.

After a while I was ready for a change and wanted something more long term, but I also didn’t want to slow down or get stuck in something too quiet. I ended up falling into blue-collar recruitment at TORRA, and it suited me straight away.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve progressed from an entry-level resourcer into a Recruitment Consultant, focusing on civil construction, quarrying, manufacturing and warehousing across Sydney. I thrive when I’m busy, focus on really understanding the industries I recruit in, and take the time to get a clear picture of what both clients and candidates are actually looking for, not just matching a resume to a job.
